On Saturday, our nation was rattled by the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania that left at least one attendee dead and others injured. Such acts of political violence have no place in our shared democracy. They are an assault not just on an individual, but on the very foundations of our democracy.
We at Nonprofit VOTE condemn this and all forms of political violence. Our democratic system is built on the peaceful exchange of ideas and the orderly transition of power through free and fair elections. Let us emerge as a nation from this dark moment with a renewed dedication to strengthening the civic bonds that unite us as Americans, and reaffirm our commitment to resolving our differences through dialogue, debate, and the ballot box.
